Candle Care
To get the most burn hours and a clean-burning, soot-free candle, please acknowledge
these wick tips:
Maintain Wicks at 1/4"
It is not necessary to trim the wicks before the first lighting, but please be sure to trim
them to 1/4" before each subsequent burn. The "fragrance mushroom" that may
form on the tops of the wicks is a result of fragrance oils collecting on the wicks during a
burning session. This mushroom should always be nipped off before re-lighting.
The length of the wick determines the size of the flame. If the flames appear too large
and/or smoke is being emitted, the wicks are too long. Please extinguish the candle
and let the wax cool before trimming and re-lighting.
Very small flames indicate that the wicks have been trimmed too short.
In this case, if one or both wicks will not stay lit please follow our repair instructions
below to refresh and revive the candle.
-
Burn for less than 4 hours at a time
Unlike store brands, which you may have burned for hours on end with very little
fragrance throw, a Blush candle can be lit for half the time and emit twice the fragrance.
The melt pool that develops in a Blush candle is the source of this intense fragrance,
and it only takes a couple of hours to form. If a longer burn is desired, you may
extinguishing the candle after the recommended burn time, allow the wax to cool and
harden, trim the wicks, then re-light (although you may not find it necessary, as the rich
fragrance can linger for hours after the candle is extinguished).
-
Always burn candles on heat-resistant and non-combustible surfaces, and only
place candles in heat-resistant holders.
-
Prevent rapid, uneven burning by placing in an area free of drafts or fans.
Why A Candle May Not Stay Lit...
Two scenarios usually account for a candle that will not stay lit for the recommended
burn time of 4 hours or less.
- When a candle has been left to burn for 6-8 hours or more, the heat from the melt
pool can strip the wicks of their protective wax coating, which can leave them
unstable and cause them to collapse.
- When wicks are trimmed too short, the result is very small flames, and one or both
wicks may not stay lit.
Repairing A Mis-managed Candle:
- Light the wicks and let burn for as long as possible to develop a small
melt pool.
- Carefully test the jar temperature to make sure it is cool enough to handle (if
a candle is in need of repair, it will not develop a full melt pool, and the melted wax will
not cause the jar to become excessively hot).
- Even though the jar shouldnʼt feel hot to
the touch, please handle with care and scoop out 2-3 tablespoons of liquid or soft wax
evenly from the top of the candle.
- When the candle has completely cooled, the wicks
should appear longer, as the wax level has gone down. Trim the tops of the wicks (not
too short) and straighten if necessary.
- Re-light and enjoy!
